This dinner is the third in our series of events on ‘The Purpose of Finance’ that we are hosting with the support of Pensions Insurance Corporation that will explore the purpose of finance and the purpose of different sectors of the industry, from asset management to stock exchanges, and investment banks to regulators. The overall project is run by David Pitt-Watson, executive fellow of finance at London Business School, and Dr Hari Mann, professor of strategy and innovation at Ashridge Business School. Their introductory paper can be found here:  ‘The Purpose of Finance’

At this event, we will launch and discuss a new paper by US academics Jim Hawley and Jon Lukomnik that explores the purpose of asset management, the extent to which the industry meets that purpose today, and what steps could be taken to align the asset management industry more closely with its purpose. You can read a summary of the draft version of the paper here.

The audience will be senior executives and policy specialists from the asset management industry.

James P. Hawley is Transamerica Professor of Business Policy and Strategy at the School of Economics and Business Administration at Saint Mary’s College of California.

Jon Lukomnik is executive director of the Investor Responsibility Center Institute (IRRCi) and the managing partner of Sinclair Capital , a corporate governance consultancy to the investment management industry, corporations and institutional investors. Previously, Mr Lukomnik served as Deputy Comptroller for the City of New York and investment advisor to the New York City pension funds.
