EU Delegation conference on the UK pensions review
13 March 2025
UK capital markets

The Chancellor announced the UK pensions review in summer 2024 to ‘boost investment, increase saver returns and tackle waste in the pensions system’. Several measures are being elaborated e.g., the consolidation of fragmented pension funds to the value for money framework, encouraging cross-employer schemes and bringing more transparency in geographic allocation.
In the EU, many member states are facing common challenges in pensions and retirement saving, and the European Commission has been tasked with exploring the potential of private and occupational pensions to help EU citizens with their retirement and channel their savings into the economy.
The current agenda includes:
Introduction by H.E. Pedro Serrano - EU ambassador to the UK
Fireside chat with William Wright - Managing director, New Financial
Presentation of key findings by Maximilian Bierbaum - Head of research, New Financial
Panel discussion moderated by Jonathan Lipkin - Director, Investment Association:
o Tilman Lueder - Head of insurance and pensions, European Commission (DG FISMA)
o Tessa Page - Partner and UK Wealth Strategy Leader, Mercer
o Lesley-Ann Morgan - Global head of pensions and retirement, Schroders
