Next steps on the Savings and Investments Union, with Harald Waiglein
1 April 2025
EU capital markets

Harald Waiglein is chair of the Financial Services Committee of the Council of the EU (as well as his day job as director general of the economic and finance department in the Austrian Ministry of Finance). He works closely with member states, the Eurogroup, and EU institutions on CMU and SIU, most recently in convening and compiling the FSC’s comprehensive report on the work being done at a member state level to build bigger and better capital markets, the differences in national practices, and the challenges ahead.
We expect participants to be a combination of policy specialists and government officials / regulators from across Europe.
Some of the specific areas for discussion will include:
the priorities of the new European Commission
the next steps for CMU 3.0 and the SIU
the best way of unlocking long-term capital in Europe (across pensions and retail)
trapdoors to avoid over the next five years
the potential impact of political uncertainty and a new US administration on the EU’s biggest economies
